hi, could anyone recomend a good book for AG recipes,Im new to this so basic is good.I mainy drink european style lagers and not so much bitters so want to make sure i dont get a book full of unwanted recipes.

Waterstones has a good range of brew books, have a look in there. They also sell the oxford companion to brewing which looks very informative. Buying online is cheaper.

I have 'Brewing Classic Styles' by Jamil Zainasheff and John Palmer which I've found to have some excellent recipes.

Check out the other brewing books on amazon too they got some real cheap offers on at the moment - i just bought two fro 8 quid inc postage. Just hope they get to swmbo before she comes back here if not extra 8 quid to get delivered here

If you search Amazon for the Classic Beer Styles you will see some books that cover all manner of European Styles.

My personal recommendation is "British Real Ale" 3rd edition, by Graham Wheeler - plenty of info on brewing as well as LOADS of recipes - and all the ones I've done from the book have worked amazingly well :thumb:

thanks for all the info, i decided it would be best to learn about the basics so i went for

How to Brew: Everything You Need to Know to Brew Beer Right for the First Time

will get my first recipe from either here or beertools.com

I'd have thought you'd get enough ideas off here really! That said, a book to learn the basics and get an outline of the process is good.

Then again, after I read the book and before I came on here, my first effort involved straining grain through a bathroom towel and taking temp readings with a greenhouse thermometer that only went up to 50 :lol:

Things have gotten better since I came on here!

I think the forums are great and you can learn a lot on the forums, but I do look having a few books about beer too.

I have a selection and they all give a different viewpoint about beer and about brewing.
