Although the Coopers Stout kit I have on at the moment suggests up to 27C for fermentation in the instructions!!!

WTF?

There seems to be some discrepancy. The Coopers site suggests 21 °C.

The darker Cooper Ales are rockets on fermentation. My last brew was blowing the liquid out of the air-lock even in a room at 18 °C.

Looks great, well done...

Next thing now is a fridge so you can keep it cold aswell! Last summer was a nightmare. Without any heating, my FV was about 25c!

Careful with those electrics though.. I try to keep my fv away from anything just incase I have a vigerous ferment... My last one was only 20L in a 33L bucket and it left krausen on the lid! If I had the 25L I was expecting, I could have been in trouble!

Thanks Mark, and excellent point about the electrics, I will certainly get them off ground level and away from the FV in case it overflows (it's settled out really after 9 days but certainly no reason not to get in the habit!).

Was looking at the fridge set ups funny enough the other night, gutted as we chucked out a little fridge last summer that would have been perfect for the job (hindsight!).

Thanks again for the tips.

Glad I could help.

Every now and again someone gives one away on here. There's always ebay and freecycle too. I got a larder fridge for £30 on ebay which works great. Admittedly I've been using it just as a fridge for now as I've not needed to chill since I got it. A lager will be one of my next brews though, so it'll get plenty of use then!
