Since the holidays I have been unable to shake this deep rooted desire for a braumeister, specifically the baby 10 litre model, for a number of reasons:
1. Cost - 20 litre is 50% more expensive
2. Compact size - should pack away nicely
3. Volume - I’m the only beer drinker in my house, and am already fermenting in a 12 litre speidel fermenter, which fills a 5 litre keg and 8 bottles or thereabouts
I thought I could make a diy all in one machine from a buffalo boiler, but got as far as fitting a ball valve, and removing the thermostat and cut off switch. I’ve done about 5 brews in it like that (full volume, no sparge, brew in a bag), and they’ve been great all truth be told, but the lust for a well polished, refined system never goes away, and will probably buy something once our ongoing house purchase completes.
What I am most keen to know, is if the 2.8kg upper limit of the malt pipe has been an issue for anyone? Most of the beers I brew are 5-6% and it looks like these might be the limit if aiming for 10-11 litres into the fermenter. I have the ingredients to do an imperial stout in my BIAB system, but it looks like I might only be able to do a 5 litre batch of a big beer like that in a 10l braumeister, should I wish to do another in the future.
Interested to hear what any braumeister 10 litre users on here have to say!
