Nice looking pics you have their mate and a tasty looking brew as well, Top stuff :thumb:

Thanks again for your positive comments, guys. You're right though, I've been well and truly bitten by the bug - I've a feeling I'll be needing more kegs in the very near future!

The brew's going insane at the moment - about two bubbles a second through the airlock and a lovely beery smell. Even the Mrs is excited by it, and I never thought that'd happen after the complaints of "Gone-off Malteser smell" yesterday :thumb:

Hows this doing at the moment , Should be out the FV and in a cornie / barrel by now  and if its in some form of storage it is best drunk young

To be honest, it still seems to be working albeit slowly!

It dropped a point over the last 24 hours, so I'll give it another go at the same time tomorrow and see what the score is. I need to pop into my local HBS tomorrow to get a syphon tube anyway, as the FV it's in doesn't have a tap :)

It is smelling bloody lovely though :thumb:

I checked it again today, and it was the same as yesterday - 1.016 (the projected FG was 1.015, I believe) so kegging commenced!

Oh... My... God! This stuff is bloody lovely! Who invented the "Moving from Black & White to Colour TV" analogy? You hit the nail right on the head!!
That's it. No going back now - I've done my last kit :D I'm totally hooked!

That said, I think the few litres which boiled off which I forgot to replace have made a substantial difference to the alcohol content - this stuff is a bit of a brain melter, certainly not a session beer :D

Thanks so much to you all for your encouragement, and to damfoose for the excellent recipe - I hope I've done it justice! :thumb:

And if it's this good out of the fermenter, what's it going to be like after conditioning!?

Brilliant!!

Check out the recipes in on the recipe database and get brewing again

Score, top man and I hope you enjoy it , next time try to lower its gravity a little so it's a little more drinkable then again its good no matter what tbh, I think ive brewed it about 4 times since I came up with the recepie, I shall try to lower its gravity a little myself and see how it tastes but im still getting used to the shiney brewery and cooking on gas , for some reason I was pretty much spot on in the plastic brewery but the shiney one im way off .

But all in all im glad you like the brew and yep it getts better much better , and it is good for drinking young so no worries. :drunk:

I see you are using over 8 % Caramalt it's a lovely malt Caramalt i use up to 25 % Caramalt in some Scottish ales. :thumb: :)

Hello all i am going to give the Bouncing Squirrel a go but will replace the Fuggles with Goldings & probably Dry hop in the keg for yeast i am planning using Themes Valley 3 :thumb: :thumb: :)

If your doing a 23 litre batch knock 1/2 a kilo of marris otter of the batch to bring the OG down to a reasonable level, Should end up with a final of about 5% rather than 5.5%. oh and try it with 300gram of crystal rather than the half kilo it should turn out slightley better.

I have changed it to 1.050 & changed the Caramalt to 6.4% just doing a small half size batch 60 litres

Me slaps head .... Forgetting some people tend to do 50 litre plus .... let me know how it turns out mate .

Holy thread resurrection, Batman!

I just re-brewed my first ever AG beer from 2009 which was a recipe by @damfoose of this parish.

When I brewed it the first time it went catastrophically wrong. I was short on volume making it considerably stronger than it should have been and my brand new Brupaks boiler demonstrated its over-eager safety cut out which would trip after being at a boil for 5 minutes and refuse to reset until the wort had fallen to about 70C, meaning I had to jug it across to my home made plastic boiler which used two Tesco kettle elements. Pretty crude but it saved the day even if I then had to jug it into the fermenter because of the lack of a hop strainer.

This time things went better although I seem to have had unusually good efficiency and also come up 1 litre short for some reason, so it's also going to turn out stronger than intended this time as well but not by a massive margin. I thought about liquoring back but decided to leave it alone. Estimated ABV should be around 5.6%.

It’s gone off like a rocket!

I didn’t think I’d need to do any chilling at this time of year, but the yeast is generating so much metabolic heat it keeps rising above 18C even in the garage, albeit in an insulated fermenter.
