I can't believe how hard people make bottling , here is how I do it , ferment out then chill & fine for a few days , put a tube on the fv reaching down to the bottom of the bottling bucket fitted with a Little bottler and get on with it . Throw all the siphons away never ever used one, easy .

I think it's more about the ease.

I use the mini kegs that are being talked about and swing top bottles.

Sometimes I just pour the last out with a funnel into the bottles and I've never had any problems

Am I right in thinking that you just held the bottles up to the tap and filled them? Didn't you use a bottling wand?

I tend to use a bottling wand despite it dripping slightly. Then I use a jug to pour the last bit out of the FV as I bulk prime. I generally put the last bit in different bottles so I know. But I've never had a problem with oxidisation. However I am considering the jug method, especially for my cider.

Afraid so Pete.
I'm the tight *** from the big Gy remember lol. I'm thinking of trying a short section of 20mm tube as described somewhere else.

Rob.

you have described a siphon to perfection...

not a siphon at all nosuction just gravity , and no messing about with a little bottler on the end of a siphon or pouring with jugs , easy peasy !

I have nearly bought a bottling stick loads of times, but using a jug is a doddle.

This thread just shows how much you have to tailor things to your own preferences in brewing. I can't imagine a jug being easy at all, I just stick a wand on the siphon end and off to go. Once started you're just moving the wand from bottle to bottle, super easy.

That's not to imply this is any better than anyone else's approach, it's just what works for me.

Though of course you can beat filling a pb with 40 pints. That really is an easy session.

I used a bottle tree and starsan plunge bottle rinser thing today for the first time and it made handling 40+ bottles a lot easier.

I don't dislike bottling, it's all part of the hobby I took up to give me something to do.
Without having the bottling etc to do, I may as well call drinking my hobby LOL.
I simply siphon from FV into another FV with tap/bottling wand attached. Prime. Off we go.
I suspect it's the cleaning and sterilising the bottles aspect which people dislike, the actual act of getting the beer into bottles I find quite rewarding.

Good point there bevvied. When all the bottles are cleaned and ready to go the actual filling part is quite rewarding, especially swing top bottles. I just love shutting them over and giving the bottle a good shake!

And when botlting is all done and you have them all set out on the worktop, ah the joys!
