Ok,

Im new so forgive me if this is in the wrong section,
But when bottling wine..

Do i need to worry about sanitizing the corks?
How much do i fill the bottles up? like if i leave to much air in it will it oxidize?

Is there a guide out there for idiots like me?? lol

Thank you soooooo much

Tim

I usually just dip the corks briefly in sanitiser. I also leave about 2 inches at the top of the bottle one inch of that is taken by the cork.

Then leave them upright for 24 hours to prevent cork shrinkage before storing on there side to prevent the cork drying out and oxidising the wine.

Hope that helps.

I crush a campden tablet into half a pint of water in a polythene bag, drop the corks in, give it a shake and leave it for a couple of minutes.

As Johnboy says, leave 2" (5cm) so there's about 3/4" (2cm) below the cork.

Mine go into a rack on their sides more or less straight away.

Would you put campden tablets in the wine itself?? would it effect the taste? or is that over the top?
Im only making 6 bottles at a time, and wouldnt mind keeping a bottle or two for a while.

Thank you

One CT to the gallon when racking, I never add more when bottling, however long I'm planning on maturing.
