Afternoon All,

For the first 5 or 6 kits I've brewed, I've been using 500ml brown PET bottles and can't help but think it would taste much crisper in glass bottles.

I'm a huge fan of the Meantime Brewery in Greenwich, London and often pick up their beers which are in 750ml bottles, corked with the metal 'cage' you get on champagne bottles affixed to it. I've attached a picture of a couple of the bottles.

Question is, how do I bottle into these? Is there a particular size cork I should use? Are the metal parts expensive, too?

Thanks for your help!

Sam.

If you buy a crown capper that can fit the slightly larger crowns you can cap these as you would any other bottle...

They look like you can crown cap them. They might be 26mm but are probably 29mm a decent bench capper should have the attachment to do both sizes of caps.

Thanks for your help.

Also toying with the idea of forking them again - do you happen to know what size and type of cork and equipment I'd need for this?

You just need a corker and some corks. You can probably get them from your local homebrew shop or a wilko if you've one of those nearby. Not sure what kind would be best mine is crap but I'm sure someone on the forum knows a good one.

Would it be any specific type of cork or are they just general?

Sorry - not corked homebrew before!

If it was me I'd cap them. The reason being if you cork them your going to have to buy a corker (if that's what they're called), then a seperate capper if you plan on capping your other beer in 330m/500ml bottles. If you buy a bench capper with a spare 29mm bell attachment you can cap both the 750ml bottles and any other bottle you like. Of course if you can afford both, the corks and cages do look nice - especially if you want to give the bottles away as prezzies

Do you have a stein or something that will take the whole 750ml bottle at once?

Otherwise you will have to pour your beer into a jug (to avoid mixing with the yeast sediment) and then pour your pint from there.

Malt miller sells corks and cages and also a hand corker you can use for them. There's also an upright corker that ferrari do which is what I use.
