well guys im ready to bottle my home beer its reading 1005 ,

iv got another bucket to transfer my brew into im just wonder ing how much sugar to put in before i bottle it ,

im looking to put sugar in the second bucket first then bottle it ,

iv 5 gallons of beer
thanks all

I can't advise on the amount of sugar, since I don't do batch priming, but I will say this after trying it once - STIR WELL!! Once your beer is in the second fermenter with the sugar, give it a really good stir to make sure the sugar is evenly distributed through the whole thing :thumb:

I didn't and some bottles were flat and others were fizzy as hell

I batch prime @ 60g for a 23ltr brew :thumb:

I don't particularly like a lot of fizz, anywhere between 80 and 100g is plenty really :!:

... but be gentle :wha: don't go slashing it about at this stage :!:

I usually use 80g for a 5 gal batch and disolve the sugar in a small amount of beer in a pan then mix. As a liquid it mixes more evenly without the need for major stirring.

I agree with BigYin, ive had same results with some bottles flat , and some fizzy

I am still learning , and my next batches, i will add the brewers sugar @ a level teaspoon per bottle for ale, or 1 heaped teaspoon per bottle for lager.

i have tried batch priming sugar before bottling with some success and some without, i have also tried batch priming with the same amount of spray dried malt and had the same very flat lagers.

so from now i will try the sugar in bottles method until i am satisfied that batch priming is correct
