1 level teaspoon, ie scraped level with the back of a knife = 3g
1 teaspoon, ie heaped, as much as you could get on it = 8g

That's interesting, I'd always assumed a level teaspoon = 5g, so I use half a teaspoon. Well, no wonder my bottles aren't very carbonated :)

Depends on the size of the teaspoon ;)

1tsp is 5ml. But that's a measuring spoon and a normal teaspoon could be anything.

1tsp of water is 5g but for solids it depends on the density and the granule size. This is why it's nuts that American recipes use cups instead of weights for flour, sugar etc.

The only bottle I've ever had fail on me was a 300ml bud bottle.
Splintered whilst capping  I only use "traditional" 500ml bottles and plastic ones for my highly carbed weissbier. Just my tuppence worth ;)

Had that happen with a stella cidre bottle. Squeezed down a little much and the upper neck of the bottle cut clean off lol. It was quite impressive how clean the cut was.

Stella had to recall cidre because the bottles exploded. I wouldn't put beer in those.

:) yes I know but I use an "official" teaspoon (5ml)

(edit) I found this the other day, it was for some cooking I was doing, never thought of applying it to brewing:
