hello from bristol! well bristol heart institute at the mo, bit of a dicky ticker so in for a check up but all i want to be home to check on my beer which is a brewferm christmas ale, all the reports on the forums seems to point to it being a bit awkward on every level as no sugar is added at any time during the process which makes me worried, fermenting seems to have stoppped after 3-4 days and i cant check the it cause im in hospital.

i am 44 and have gone back to brewing after a couple of years in the wilderness and am thoroughly enjoying my self again in the world of fementers, barrels, bottles and living in the garage again, life is good when good beer is cheap and plentiful

Welcome to the forums, Bomb.

I've never done the kit in question but in the words of Tom Jones, it's not unusual.

Unusual for a beer to ferment out quickly I mean, especially during the summer months.

I did a quick check and sure enough the instructions for your beer do say no added sugar. I suppose if you really had too you could prime the beer anyway, if you can't get to it for a while and it loses its fizz.

Hi Bomberns & welcome to the forum :thumb:

Hope all's well in the end mate....I'm 62 and just had an ECG just to be on the safe side...

Welcome back the the brotherhood..

thanks for the replies, glad to be back brewing, didnt realise how much i missed it till i started it again.

i have also checked about the ferm period of this brew, it seems 3-4 days isnt unusual but am concerned about bottling the brew, it states no sugar even at bottling, it will be left until xmas anyway but dont want to crack open a bottle to find it flatter that a witches t*t!

the sugars still in dont concern me, its the yeast in it, does it use a special yeast because after 1st ferm it should read 1020 which seems rather high to every other brew i have done, if the yeast has stopped at 1020 how do i restart it in the bottles?
it needs a long maturation of at least 6-8 weeks, maybe thats the key, time.
not a lot of info on brewferm website and scant info on forums about it, i dont want to prime it and end up with xmas bottle bombs!

Check the SG before bottling, if its dropped below 1020 then you could top it off with a bit of sugar.

I'd bottle with grolsh style bottles, they seem a lot more forgiving of overpriming....not to mention easier to use.

hiya bomber and welcome to forum. hope they sort the dicky ticker out soon but in the meantime make sure you're a sex pest with the younger nurses! i was in hospital when i was 28 for dodgy heart (yep, that young) and i never once got slapped by a nurse

Welcome to the Forum BB, you'll soon be fighting fit.
Had a friend with a very severe heart attack, he died 3 times on the table.
That was 20 years ago, he's still going strong!
