Well this brew is turning into a nightmare! my boiler has just broke (it keeps on cutting out) and I'm half way though a brew day. Thankfully it hadn't started boiling so I hadn't put my hops in etc. Will it keep until tomorrow or even monday?

Did you remove the safety cut-out ? :wha:
If not you'll find it very difficult to achieve a rolling boil.

It's a Richies 25ltr boiler, I've not had any problems before with it cutting out, but it's just suddenly started doing it :hmm:

My old boiler died halfway through a brew last year, I made a 60litre plastic boiler with two kettle elements after it died - works spot on, if your boiler is dead there is another way................

Must be the time of year for boilers to go belly up, mine failed last brew using my pilot kit and it was a pain, had to transfer wort to my old HLT.
So my plan is to fit an immersion flange with one on the inside to act as a big washer and then nip them together with a ring of stainless screw and nuts. Just need to get into Toolstation to check if there is enough room for bolts around the flange, anyone know? Failing that one of those mechanical flanges might be an option, but they are a fair bit more expensive.

Immersion heaters are then a tenner a go and as my set up runs four a spare will always come in handy ;) Will need to do some work on the cover and cable entry as well. :?
I purposely fitted two heaters to my boiler and HWT for speed, a bit more control and backup ;)
I am lucky to have the necessary electrical supply to handle my proposals, there can be some issue I believe, this is why kettle elements are now a lower wattage than in days gone by . One of the electrical tech-no trousers will know the full details about this I'm sure:?

I clean my elements after every brew with a stiff nylon brush and soak them with de-scaler every three brews or so....Touch wood not had a problem in awhile

yep, cruddy elements will cause frequent trip outs

Well I got myself a metal scourer and scrubed off all the **** off the element and it works a treat now :D so I've just finished the brew. It's actually working better than it has done for a while , thanks for the advice guys :thumb:

That's good news. We need a reminder somewhere that elements need to be cleaned, we've all suffered the same

I clean mine every brew too, citric acid and hot water works well. I also cover mine with a SS collander to try stop the bits getting onto the element (I use a tea urn as a boiler so easily done, might be more difficult with Tesco kettle elements)
