Hi,

Would there be any disadvantage having the hops in a bag when you boil the wort to letting them freely move around?

The reason i ask is i would be able to dispence with the need for a hop strainer!

Im thinking of making my next kit my last and buying one of the 40ltr buffalo boilers to get me going and am thinking of doing the other stuff as cheap as possible.

Left to boil freely, the hops then act as a filter to stop break material etc ending up in your FV.

If you keep the hops in the wort while cooling it, how is it possible to have some aroma hops in there for only few minutes (as some recipes require)?
