I always enjoy visits from my nephew as it gives me the chance of a learned opinion of my latest experimental extract brews (Heâs also a keen home brewer). He was very complimentary about my brews on his last visit, and I was feeling pretty smug... until he produced two of his all-grain brews. They blew my socks off, it was easily the best beer I have ever tasted â and heâd only thrown them together out of bits he had left in the cupboard/freezer. That was it, in a blinding revelation I realised my extract/kit brewing days were over, I was going all grain. After trawling the net for mash tun info, I went out and bought one of these from my LHBS:
Plus half the contents of the local plumbing supply shop:
And put them all together to make this:
I also bought two of these:
Plus even more plumbing equipment. My questions are:
1. Is a 33 litre polypropylene bucket (as per the mash tun) OK to install the two kettle elements in ? (the bucket seems more substantial/better quality that my Youngâs polypropylene FV).
2. Is the rubber washer that came with the kettle element sufficient to maintain a water-tight seal?
3. Is 33 litres enough volume to allow boiling of wort for a 25 litre brew?
Thanks in advance
