hi all i have just marked up bucket its a 33ltr fem bin with 2 elements in and hop filter when i drain it i end up with 1200ml in bottom if i fill from that mark i can get 30ltr in it with 25mm space at the top or am i cutting it fine with 25mm head space for a boil also wot do i do with dead space in bottom :wha: :wha:

I have a 30L plastic bucket as a HLT and usually fill it to 50mm of the rim for the initial boil, just to make sure it doesn't boil over; I usually collect about 31-32L for a 23L brew length and I put the excess in a pan to simmer away on the cooker and then add it to the HLT after about 30mins.

The dead space is what you will lose in any volume calculations. So when working out your pre boil volume, include the dead space because that volume will be left in the HLT.
