Despite brewing my first brew, I'm getting the bug, especially after reading the great posts on this site.

I've acquire a 22 ltr mash tun from eBay.

I've been looking at water boilers on eBay etc and think its the best way forward. My question is what size of boiler is best to buy. I have two corny kegs and 20 bottles at the moment for storage.

Any advice is appreciated.

to do 23 liter brews comfortably without fear of boil overs etc.... you do need a boiler of 40 liters plus.
It makes your brewing experience much better.

and another for 40 litres. Especially as you're using Cornies. Before I had cornies I was doing 23 litre brews, the problem with this was with 19 in the Corny and a bit lost to trub etc I'd end up with only 4 or 5 bottles.
Now because I have a 40 litre boiler I've been able to go to 26-27 litre brews which gives me a corny and about a dozen bottles...enough to make it worth getting the bottling bucket, little bottler etc sterilised

Thanks folks. That's conclusive enough for me.

Where do I get a 40ltr boiler for sensible money? I've had a look on eBay but there's nothing that big.

I use a 40L Buffalo that I got from the Nisbets clearance store on eBay. I think I was lucky to get one but if you keep looking you might be lucky too.

the 40 l
Lt Buffalo ( when available ) is about the only one of that size I know of.
after the 30Lt tea urn types they most companies produce a 33 liter pot, 50 liters and then continue uppards.
Go on get a 50 liter........ :D
With elements.....
then brew wherever your electricity reaches.

or Gas of course....

Thanks RTP

Nisbets are currently selling the 40L Buffalo for about £90+VAT. I got mine for £66 inc VAT from their clearance store.

Thanks RTP. I'll keep an eye out

I have been keeping an eye on the eBay nisbets clearance store and they haven't had any 40l buffalo's for a few months :(

I've read some posts that people are ordering pots from Germany and then adding elements and taps etc.

Is this cost effective. If so does anyone know such German sites to purchase from?

:hat:

Email reply from above company who say that they do a 50ltr pot but will not have any in stock until the end of the week. No price supplied. I'll check back next week. They don't do a 40 ltr.

I got mine in February so perhaps that was the last time they had one to clear.
