Hi All

i have signed up a BOC account here in northern ireland, because as far as CO2 sourcing goes, its quite difficult. So i now have a source of CO2 whenever i want it, and will be charged only when i hire the first bottle.

turns out, the regulator is entirely different from the one i was supplied from Norm. The BOC bottles require a male fitting. The regulator i bought from norm is one of the female ones that is tightened onto the small co2 cyliners he supplies.

I will be able to get another CO2 regulator for use with BOC bottles quite easily, but before i do i was wondering if anyone on here has had the same problem?

is there an adaptor that can be used to link my existing regulator to the BOC cylinder to avoid the expense of buying a new one?

Will the new BOC regulator, if i have to buy one, work with john quest fittings?

P.S, looks like il have an empty CO2 cylinder and regulator for sale soon.

all help greatly appreciated!

I think the bottle with the female fitting will be 'mixed' gas and you want 100% CO2 which has a male fitting. If you get a regulator for it you should still be able to fit john guest fittings to it via a 3/8" BSP female to 3/8" john guest push fit adaptor. Norm gave me one with my regulator.

However, I think one of these may convert to enable you to use your regulator.

Thanks. I noticed that adaptor earlier but just wasnt sure if it would work. What is the argon part? I called up to the BOC place and he showed me the regulator to use. It has a male connection which screws onto the female connection of the cylinder. If the adaptor above worked that would be perfect. The guy up there also couldnt shed any light on the john guest fittings. So i really hope to be able to continue using my own reg. sorry for any nonsense questions

I couldn't hand on heart say that the argon converter will work, but it looks like it should. Can you not get at BOC bottle with a male thread? are you sure it is not mixed (ie N2 and CO2) gas.
If the reg you got from Norm does not have a john guest fitting, give him a ring, I'm sure he'll send you one for a couple of quid.

thanks for the reply. I am literally just in the door from the BOC place. Following our conversation yesterday my head was filled with doubt and confusion after my visit to BOC yesterday. I was told i would need a different regulator to fit the BOC bottles. I asked the guy in the store if i could see a bottle. Turns out, that the connection is the standard male thread that can be used with my regulator. He was in shock. said he never sells the stuff so assumed connection would be the same as all the other cylinders. Thank god for that. Sorry for wasting time. Looks like i wont be needing any adaptors after all. As the guy in the BOC place told me "we learn something new every day"

All i have to do now is choose the size of bottle i want.

thanks for the help on this anyway.
