you'll be about at the chilling/yeast sprinkling i'm guessing by now?

how's it goin?

I hope you are getting on well there Frisp.

You have chosen a fantastic beer to brew first. And the run off does not need to be clear, just free of pieces of malt.

Not sure what you meant there Frisp but that looks like break to me. If so, it's quite normal. Stick it in the fermenter, add the yeast when it's about 20C and leave it for the beer fairies to do their thing :D

/Phil.

dont forget you also lose some to the hops soaking it up, and the deadspace in your boiler ;)

did you have both elements on for the whole boil?

when you say hoppy do you mean when you taste the wort? i've found the grassyness subsides a little after the ferment, and a little more with a bit of conditioning.

A highly flocculant yeast is supposed to drop out taking some of the bitterness with it.

Maybe something like gervin/nottingham would do.

It might save having to dilute or blend with another beer.

Its in.....
Ps Just sniffed the fermenter and its All malt...
Learned a shitload today....
I need to sort out my sparging to get the runnings clear.
I need to sort my insulation on my tun
I need to increase my HLT volume. I reccon I lost 20% in the boil. 1 L to spill and another to dicking around with the break.

In summary how was today Fan fekkin tastic...

Nothing like jumping in with both feet is there :D

Wait till you taste it, don't bother putting any socks on, they'll be blown off anyway ;)

great stuff Frisp! even better still you kept a brave face even after a string of issues :)

Just a quick question. My MT false bottom has a shitload of 2.5 mm holes could this be too many ? is this what casued the probs with cloudy runnings. or was I just a bit impatient :?:
