Hi

I've had a brew in the FV for 2 weeks (Coopers Sparkling Ale)- dropped to 1006 after 4 days bubbling then has remained constant.- Temperature currently reading 22-24 C in the coolest part of my house.

3 days ago I added finings (The 2-part solution) with the intention on bottling today. However, there are still largish lumps floating that wont seem to drop :hmm: ?

Shall I leave it a while? Shall I add more finings? Is the temperature too high to clear the beer properly? Shall I bottle

Any advice most appreciated.

If it's had a couple of weeks Dave I'd bottle it taking care to avoid the floaters :D

Might be worth syphoning to another bucket avoiding too much splashing, then bottle

You will normally find that the "floaters" will cling to the sides of the FV as you syphon off during bottling.
You could always be doubly sure by skimming off with a fine mesh tea strainer.

I had the same thing with the Coopers Sparkling I bottled a couple of months ago. As said very little off the crud actually appeared to make it into the bottles so I presume it stayed in the FV as I was bottling off.

I usually leave my beers in primary until day 14 before I bottle or keg, so they are pretty clear by that point.

I have never used finings in my beers until the last two brews, but now I've got Cornii I thought I would give it a try.

Both were larger brews, split between two buckets, one with Gervin and one with S-04 in each case.

With AG#8 I tried BeerBrite, with AG#9 I used gelatine. All 4 buckets had clear beer with floaty bits hanging in suspension. I don't think I will bother again. I got around it by cutting the toes off well washed and sterilised discarded stockings or tights, and fixing one over the sediment cup on my syphoning stick, held on with those toothed plastic strip thingies you use for tidying wires and cables.

Cracking idea

I'll give it a go.

Cheers

This brew has now been bottled for 3 weeks so I had a sneaky taster yesterday---

Horrid- cloudy, tastes of rot, flat as a pancake. I tested another to make sure it isn't a dud with the same results.

Should I just leave it and try another sample in a few weeks?

Still flat.... :(

Any suggestions for 36 bottles of FLAT SPARKLING ALE!!!!!!

Should I try bringing it back into a warm spot to try for further 2ary fermentation? Its been in the shed for 5 weeks now.

sounds bad. :( if its cloudy, horrid and tastes of rot after that long I reckon they will only get worse.
