BIAB Bags????

Ok where can I buy a BIAB Bag????? Or can I utilize anything to use as one, and if so how?

I believe you can buy them from most online suppliers, but they can be quite easily made. Mine is a double layer of voile material made to measure for the pot, which er' indoors very kindly run up on the sewing machine. Its 37 brews old, and apart from an attractive brown hue from the malt that I can't seem to get rid of, it's as good as new.

Mines a voile too. I stitched mine into a tube. I tie some string round the bottom when I'm mashing and then undo it to empty the bag. It has the added advantage that you can rinse the tube from both ends which speeds up cleaning.

I bought a pack of three five gallon paint strainer bags with an elasticised top and I'm on to my second after many brews as the elastic finally wore out. Only cost me less than five bucks.

I bought mine off of ebay. It was about £11 if I remember correctly, including postage. Still in perfect condition after 15 brews.

I had some cheap ones which worked fine on the stove but the 5 gallon paint strainers just didn't fit my 50l pot so I just bought a specially made one.. it is very tough and very well made but I think it was a bit pricey like £15 or something

I used part of a pillow case for my first AG but it didn't let the water through very well, so the second brew I used a doubled up net curtain which worked great.

I've got one of those and its still going strong after 2-3 years of BIABing. Mines a rather manky dark brown though as I've never washed it

How would you wash it? Obviously you would stick it in the machine with a scoop of Persil.! Would you just boil it in a pan of water or is there proper cleaning stuff you can buy?

Rob, how big is your pot you'll use? The first one I bought is too small for my stainless pot so I bought a bigger one.

It's only done half a dozen or so brews, you're welcome to it if you pm me your address. I have been putting it in the washing machine after every use - I've not had any problems doing this though.

I rinse mine and then bung it in the washing machine with a scoop of oxyclean. I clean my hop bags this way too.

I use these also. Except they're used at my work and we order them in big boxes. Brilliant and cheap.

I just bought my first bag from www.brewinabag.com and it is fantastic. Three brews already and it works as advertised. It will take a week or two to arrive from the US, but I really like mine.

5 gallon might be a bit big for the bag, but maybe worth a try. If it's too small you could ease it in my direction :wink:
