Better choice of yeast for MJ's New Zealand pale ale

I regularly make the Mangrove Jack's Brewer's Series New Zealand pale, with beer enhancer or LME. My partner loves the beer. I have read you could improve it by chucking away the very basic yeast that comes with it and substituting one of the MJ's better yeasts. The question is - which one is most suitable? I don't want to change the character of the brew, just further improve the finished product. Thanks!

Crossmyloof Pia yeast would be a decent shout. It's designed for NZ pales, makes good beer and is available quickly and cheaply on the web. It has a number of fans in this parish.

If you’re going to order the Pia, try adding 50g of their Māori Mingle hop mix to your order too and dry hop with it. It’s a lovely blend. It’s NZ hop mix so should suit your kit

Pia I use it in my NZIPA but Maori mingle sounds good.

The kit comes with M44 IIRC, which is not really a basic yeast, it's almost certainly repackaged Lallemand Bry-97, which is at least the equal of other dry yeasts. I can't distinguish a difference. Bry-97 is one of the better dry yeasts IMO. Changing yeast is a good way to vary a beer a bit though. US-05 is very similar to M44 but I think gives ,more hop expression. You could try Pia for comparison, or Nottingham or Verdant IPA. S-04 can suit this type of ale too.
