Best place to buy Yeast and Additives?

Evening all

Just getting into the home brewing and im on my fourth gallon of wow. Im finding Im using lots of the yeast, finings, glycerine and additives which you can get from Wilkos and Tesco.

Although they dont seem expensive Im a tight ars and would like to pick them up cheaper, maybe in larger packets.

I dont have a homebrew shop close to me.

Wilkinson's sell pots of Young's “Super Wine Yeast Compound”, much cheaper than individual sachets and you only need one teaspoonful per fermentation. If making in larger quantities, get a starter bottle going first.

Glycerine is much cheaper from the chemist's. The little bottles in Tesco cost around 70p for 38ml but I pay around £1.60 for 200ml.

Finings, you need to buy a bottle online. I pay £2.15 for 250ml from my LHBS, which is good for around 15 gallons.

You can get 1 Kg bag of Youngs yeast nutrient for about £9 (over £18 using small tubs from Wilko) and 1 Kg bag of Youngs pectolase for around £14 (over £55 using small tubs from Wilko) if you shop around online, but if the pectolase is more than you can use before the expiry date (it does go off) you may be better off getting a 400g tub (as sold by one of the sponsors).

Well on my way home I found a new Homebrew store has opened!!! :party:

Should be able to get some good kit there.

It also sells hydroponic equipment! Must be for growing grapes

Just been in the new shop. Only got a few bits of homebrew stuff so far. I did get a hydrometer, brewing sugar and vinclear of £6.60

would i need to keep feeding it sugar? that would cost more than yeast

If your doing a brew quite regular then you can just save some in a jamjar then keep in the fridge till your ready to use then warm it up when your before pitching i added some sugar to give itr a kick start
There is a method of keeping it longer but you need to get advice from some of the other brewers is a bit long winded you need to wash the yeast in distilled water im not sure of the process
