Morning brewers.
I'm loving English beer again. Have been having a great time brewing 'Timothy Taylor Landlord', '5 Points' and 'Tribute' clone kits from TMM.
I fancied brewing a bitter with (hopefully!) toffee and orange notes. First Gold was the choice of hops, of course. :-)
Keeping it really simple: 11L BIAB batch on the kitchen hob. No sparge.
On the boil now :-)
Recipe:
I've gone a little heavy on the hops (for Best Bitter standards) as I really want those orangey marmalade notes to sing. Went in with some dark crystal to hopefully up the toffee notes and a touch of brown malt for a little more depth. I've also taken around 1L of the wort and am caramalising it in a saucepan to hopefully get some Maillard reaction to add more toffee vibes.
Going with WLP013 to help accentuate the maltiness further.
Efficiency has come in at 78% so new SG is 1.049
