Hi,
I have found a box of Hovis fast action bread yeast at the back of the cupboard but the best before date is May 2007 (you can tell I don't sort my cupboards out much).
just thought I'd ask if it's good for anything bar the rubbish bin.
If i keep looking I might find Shergar, Lord Lucan and the Holy Grail hahaha.

I doubt it would even be worth using for bread making, and would definitely not use for beer/wine/cider.

I would check it before I binned it, just make up a starter, bout 5 fluid ounces of water, a tsp of sugar and a tsp of the yeast, if it starts bubbling then it's fine. I still probably wouldn't use it in wine, but it'd be fine for bread.

Thanks, I did try it out and all got was a flat murky liquid haha, which was for the best considering my lack of culinary skills. I'm more of an Oliver Hardy than a Jamie Oliver.
Cheers for the advice though much appreciated.
Lezli
