Best beer for curry?

One of my neighbours comes round for a 4-pint carry out of my Summer Breeze Ale when he has a curry. It’s an IPA strongly hopped with Citra and Galaxy.

What beer/hops do you prefer with a curry and what curry do you have it with?

Personally I think NZ hops go best with a curry and I usually have anything in the medium hot range nearly always a lamb tikka dish.

Mild is good with a typical BIR curry. I love bitter IPA to drink but i find they really don't go with a lot of food.

Naga chicken is my go to dish and I do like an IPA with it. My (anyone’s) fresh tasting Citra IPA is always my first choice with a hot curry.

I don’t remember trying that combo. I’m a bit like the guy in the Subway advert that despite all the choice, always goes for his favourite!

That sounds interesting, have you posted the recipe?

I tend t go for fairly clean crisp beers a citra pale ale, or horror of horror on casino a larger can be quite pleasant with curry. Most recently however I have found NEIPA’s (despite not fitting the clean crisp criteria) go really well with curry.

15g Admiral @ 60
25g Saaz @ 5
1 teaspoon coriander seeds @ 5
3 green cardamoms @ 5
25g Saaz @ 80 degrees for around 10-15 minutes
1 pack of Danstar Saison yeast

OG 1.052
FG 1.00

ABV 7%
IBU 26

I'd have thought so, given how fragrant cardamom is. I'd imagine a delicate hand is required when using it in beer.

Yes it does come through really well. I didn’t want it to be too overwhelming and three was about right for me.

Great! I don’t have temp control but made this towards the end of July so it was pretty warm to get the best out of the yeast.

I'm with your neighbour. I like highly hopped beer with curry.

I know! Neighbour drinks my Citra IPA, daughter drinks my plum porter, wife drinks my cider. At least they leave me with my brown ales, Belgian ales, and stout.
