So. This is a turn up for the books. I wonder what people's thoughts are on the matter. Those of us who consider it worth a passing thought, that is. I always wondered how apparent Tory - he was obliged to be Independent when he became Speaker- managed to live so cosily under the same roof as his active Labour campaigner wife. I, for one, shall be raising a glass to the lad this evening.

He's not wrong though.
Reactionary - the pandemic has shown they react rather than be pro-active (ie close the borders immediately)
Populist - they say anything if it will make them sound good. Almost like they want people to 'like their posts on social media'
Nationalistic - Boris is just like a cheerleader. Britain is great, vote for Brexit, rah! rah! rah!
Xenophobic - Boris again - letterboxes, limerick about the Turkish president, Priti Patel smirking when talking about freedom of movement and just today, Dido Harding saying the NHS shouldn't be relying on foreign doctors and nurses.

You're so wrong, Pavros. Any alternative would be better. Screaming Lord Such and the Monster Raving Loony Party would be better, the Natural Law Party (Yogic Flyers nut-jobs) would be better. This lot are emasculating Parliament, nobbling the judiciary, making it illegal to have demonstrations, moving the constituency boundaries, reining in any of the media who challenge them etc. etc. In short they're no longer Conservatives, but fascists.

Mark Thomas made an excellent programme for Radio 4 years ago (It pops up on Radio 4 Extra occasionally) when the powers that be decided they didn't want the plebs demonstrating in Parliament Square, meaning you had to apply for a permit. At the time of broadcast he held the record for most protests in one day (20).

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I'd love to know who's paying to keep Johnson's lot in power. My money's on the Americans.

Current Conservative party took very right wing turn. I am labour supporter, but I wouldn't mind now a moderate tory government.
What we really need is a proportional representation - much more democratic what we have now - always 2 party system. At least with PR much more people would be represented in parliament - even if it means having someone like Nigel Farage in parliament (I'm sue he represents some people's views).

That's what I understand by democracy. All views represented. I'd be more than happy to see a good representation of Greens in the Commons. I like the idea of coalitions, too, much more considered and representative of broader views. The trouble with a two-party system is that a vote for a minority party is a wasted vote so people either don't vote or they vote against who they don't want to see in power, in many cases. The way we're going, we'll be in a one-party system soon.
