Using tumble dryer, in the last 20 years shmbo has used it twice so think it'll be ok.

Ooooh! What's getting brewed with that?

I guess it'll have to be something that'll go with a bannock and a lump of farmhouse! :D

I'm hoping to keep it simple.
I'll make some crystal and a little chocolate with the grain and then make a simple bitter with some Orkney grown Fuggle hops.

This is the second attempt. First time was just a few pounds so could not get a real try but confirmed I could malt it and get a decent efficiency when malting.
This time I started with over 12kg so will be able to brew a few to get a true taste.
I don't honestly expect to get a noticeable flavour from the Bere because most of the flavour changes will probably be down to my malting methods.

We'll see :thumb:

Sounds good, I'm just interested really because I like the idea of historic brews, ingredients etc.

Well, that and I go nuts for bere bannocks...

I am tempted to try no hops in one batch and find something local to balance out the sweetness, heather possibly but I need to do some research.

Just had to wiki that - i thought it was a spelling mistake. But it could also be the stuff i get here as i reckon the grains i get are quite small. Will have to investigate and pop down to the flour mill to see if i can see it while its stil on the stalks - or try to grow a bit to see what it comes up like.
Good luck with the brewing - one tip though - it may well be better doing a longer mash as i have found with mine its quite weak and have had to add sugar to the last couple of brews to bring up the SG. I'm going to try an overnight mash next time to see if that improves things.

I'll take note and report back on grain power. I know my normal efficiency so my calls should be quite close.
