hi

i have in my keg a rather nice sundew which has been priming for 4 wks now, but it's really gassey. when i open the tap it flys out. do i simply release some gas by undoing the cap?

it settles down but it's way to lively. i did prime my barrel with 130 gms of sugar - i usually do that.

130g is quite a lot for a pressure barrel. You could release some pressure from the cap, but I'd bet it'll settle down after you drink a few pints.

I know that sounds like an awful burden for a Friday evening :)

(If you've got a short length of hose, attaching that to the tap might help with pouring).

I should be careful. Pressure barrel pressure valves do not always vent at the correct pressures and barrels can split. I never use more than 75 gms of priming sugar and mine has plenty of fiz.

You didn't say what type of barrel, Budget or King keg??
If it's a youngs or similar budget keg then 130g is miles too much   The recommended amount is 85g, king kegs I think can go up to 120g.
If you are using a budget keg I would vent some of the gas by tweaking the pressure relief valve.

Funnily enough though I brewed a Sundew kit ages ago and it had definitely finished, I bottled and primed it as normal but when it came to drinking time every single bottle came extremely lively and way too fizzy :wha: :hmm:
