First night out for months yesterday and whilst in a nice old pub in olney (bucks) I came across one of the most retched pints

https://www.theakstons.co.uk/m/Our-Shop/Product-Details/?Product=358

luckily there was a pub further down the road selling some decent beer to forget the experience.
It was like vinegar had been used in the recipe.
Has anyone else had this vile liquid filth and lived to see another day?

Description

Continental 'blonde beer' style cask ale
A subtle, honey aroma with thirst quenching, zesty lemon fruit overtone in taste followed by a lingering, satisfying, medium dry finish.
Colour: Golden Honey
ABV: 4.1%

Ive never heard of it, but the description on the website sounds lovely! Are you sure it wasn't just a dodgy pint?

More like pubs to avoid?

Vinegar seems to be a infection. It's one of the few bacteria that actually love alcohol rich environments. I even had it once with my favorite lager (Grolsch, unpasteurized).

Sounds like the beer was off. I had a Rudgate Chocolate Stout recently in a bar in York. Usually a beer that I really enjoy, but this one tasted like a pint of Sarsons as you say. Took it back and complained. The barman tasted it then agreed it was well beyond best!

I had a pint of Rudgate Battle axe bitter in york and it was disgusting. ....proper rank! Others to avoid include green king ipa..even when it's good its bad!

Cheers

I guess we all have different tastes - I was out on Fri night and driving so I reluctantly had a pint of Greene King IPA as it's only 3.6%, was amazed at how tasty and hoppy it was, pleasantly surprised.

I do think a lot of places just don't know how to look after real ale. My local never serves a bad pint, but many others in the area have extremely variable beer. I even went to a CAMRA beer festival last winter and had an off pint, when challenging the bar staff they said nothing was wrong with it so won't be going back there as they clearly have no idea.
