I opened 1 before dinner and was disappointed that it had no taste.
I ate my dinner which have it enough time to come up to temp..wow what a difference ...
Really pleasant background taste ..light caramel which I guess is the pumpkin.
Who'd have thought temperature affected the taste so much.
 
Quite amazing isnt it. I think the colder a beer is the more it supresses the malty flavours and accentuates the hoppy flavours.

I've known people who know no better ( lager drinkers who are used to fridge temp beer) complain that the beer is warm when give ales at correct cellar temp. But you cant taste the full flavour of an ale served at 1C
 
The American Wheat beer I'm currently drinking tastes absolutely amazing when it's been left out of the fridge for half an hour or so before drinking. Straight from the fridge it's decidedly average!
 
First time I've ever noticed of thought about.
The second bottle is waiting for me when I get home.and it's not in the fridge.
 
Just had my daughter visiting with her Aussie fiancee (she's living in Tasmania at the moment).
I didn't really manage to persuade him that only **** beer needs to be chilled, so you can't taste how bad it really is :lol:
I did try the wine analogy - that a complex red wine needs to be at room temperature, so you can taste the subleties.
I guess white wine is like a light-bodied hoppy beer, where some chilling tends to accentuate the bits you want, and to suppress competing factors in the body of wine/beer.
We tried a lot of different British beer styles, I think he went back at least believing that this wasn't just some odd Pommie eccentricity, but there might be something in it!
At least, I hope so :) :thumb:
 
Depends on how cold for me.

Room temperature isn't pleasant but fridge cold can be too cold...chillers are good because they cool to about 10 degrees Celsius.
 
I too like a lightly chilled beer. But, I can't get my system to stop foaming if it isn't cold. I'm looking at maybe my liquid lines are too short. Currently to get my friends happy, I have to fridge my kegs. Little sad. I wish I could get food grade lines here in Japan. I have to order them from China. So I got another order coming. I'll try 3 meters this time and see.
 
I don't know how true this is but I have been told to get beer to the best temperature for drinking put one bottle in the fridge and leave one at room temperature. When you're ready to drink them mix them 50/50 in a glass.

That's why if you're going to be in this hobby for a long time, it's best to get an old fridge and turn the cold setting way down so not to be cold cold. You could go as far as connecting a temp controller to it if you wanted a set temp.
Some of you who use kegs, can you give me some advice. I can't get food grade beer tubing here but the sell lots of regular vinyl tubing, thin walled. Is this bad to use?
