I have a free trial of beersmith but it doesnt seem to have a option for maxi biab with 19l pan for a 23l batch. I have just started using this method and am looking for some software that might help me alter recipes to account for reduced effiencey etc. Does anybody know of any software that can do this? Or is there a way of doing this with beersmith that i havnt worked out?

Cheers

Reduced efficiency? It doesn't have to be that way.

The only software I know for maxi BIAB is the calculator on the BIAB forum. It's not exactly user friendly like brewmate or similar.

Its just a bit annoying with beersmith, you put in your equiptment and it assumes that if you are using a 19l pot you must be doing extract.

One of the things Ralph talks about in the maxi BIAB tutorial is that new brewers are obsessed with numbers! I know I was! I used the calculator for a while but it's just too complicated for me to be bothered with. I have recently started using brewmate which is totally free and is close enough to meet my needs I.e. it worked out a recipe this week to get 23l at 1.056 I fell 1L short, more than good enough for me. The true stat I'm interested in is is how many people enjoy my beer. The guy who does the mash, sparge, boil blog did an article about whether brewing is an art or a science. For me it's an art with scientific principles.

All good points, ive already bought the ingredients for my next brew, a schwarzbier which im really looking foward to doing. Its another 23l batch because i cant stand to see a fv half empty.
