I left my beer kit in the FV for 5 months (to the day!) due to it being tourist season and working 7 days a week for this time.
Finally had a day off and bottled it today: do the experts here think I have wasted my time bottling it?

This is also the reason you haven't seen me around for a while!

Cheers all in advance

If you made vinegar, then it was exposed to the air somehow. Did the airlock go dry?
While 5 months is stretching it too far, I leave my lagers in the fermenter for 6 to 8 weeks, but it's important to keep the airlock topped up. And to remove the airlock before dumping the yeast/trub if you're using a conical fermenter.
Any of the big supermarkets will sell bottles of 40% alcohol for steeping fruit for about €14 a litre. This is a lot better than water or sanitiser as it doesn't matter so much if it gets sucked back into the beer.
I imagine all the alcohol would evaporate off long before 5 months, though.
