Strange.

I did a brew a month back and bottled it about 10 days ago.

My brew length was 45 litres so I split fermentation between 2 25 litre plastic tubs. I left it about 3 weeks before bottling.

The first tub was great fully fermented 1.012. The second was odd it was also fully fermented 1.012 but it had a grey scum on top and smelled slightly rank. I primed and bottled both but put different caps on the two batches. I tried one from the odd batch last night and it has fizz but tastes off.

Is this a sanitation issue?

Could be, the rank smell and odd taste could be infection, is there a sour taste? Did you sanitise the other FV differently?

To be honest it could have been sanitised at a separate point.

Also i like to run my water 12 hours before a brew to ensure all the fluorine has evaporated and then add extra unboiled water (from the tub in question?
) to my boiled out wort to correct the OG.

So there are a bunch of places infection could have got in.

I guess I'm just surprised that I got a fully fermented batch out when there was an infection.
