After the success of TST13 both Rob and Steve who came along with me want to go to another this year.

We live in the Midlands so can anyone suggest any other beer or real ale festivals this year that are reasonable priced? Looked at southwell festival but at £95 each+camping its a bloody rip off!

Oh and can a mod move this for me to a relevant catergory seeing as I seem to be thick and post it under equipment :?:?

I go to the Nottingham beer festival every year in October, no camping though!

It's definitely worth stopping in a hotel if you can get to it, over 1000 different ales on offer which is the UK's largest, if not the worlds.

I vaguely* remember going to the Lincoln Beer Festival in the late 90s, where I grew up, and it looks pretty much the same on this year's website: big scaffold of beers in a big room. Venue has been revamped in recent years. A good one if you can't wait - it's the end of next week and the Saturday (23rd-25th)! Not a field or tent in sight though.

* Vagueness due to beer

the CAMRA website has details of all their events

I know it's a long way from the Midlands, but i can highly recommend SiBA BeerX in Sheffield. over 500 beers showcased over 3 (?) days.
It's in the city centre though, so no camping, and you've just missed it so it will be a while till the next one. It is thoroughly worth the wait though :thumb:

There is always the CBA National Comp and Festival In September (14th) in Oxford (ish)

Then there is the LAB comp and Festival in October (???) in Lahndn

Ill keep an eye on that, only an hour away fron sheffield :)

+1 for sibax in sheff , also the steel city one is in same venue closer to the end of the year always had a good time there. Worth dressing for tjhwe warm though cus its boiling in there. There is one in chesterfield this weekend, Google railale (its in a train place)

The Camra Leicester one is pretty good, but you've missed it for this year. It's held in a hindu community centre and the community from the centre cook curry in the room next to the beer - fantastic, all your basic needs met under one roof!
Again it's city centre so no camping

Yeah i was questioing the venue when we went. Ponds Forge? Nowt like a heavy chlorine smell in the air while you're drinking ;)

I was supposed to be going to railale, a mate from uni can get free tickets in cuz her dad works for CAMRA & on the bar (or he did last year)
Unfortunately, I have my finals that week and i dont wanna risk it :/

I was at BeerX all week, can't say I noticed any chlorine smell tbh.....??

Rob,

Hardly the midlands, but google The Purbeck Folk Festival.

It's at the end of August, costs about £80 for 3 nights including camping.

There are a total of about 40 beers and loads of cider too.

They have about 6 or 8 beers on at any one time - when a barrel runs out they put another on.

There are 2 stages plus the lambing shed is used as an open mike arena.

Great international folk not just the odd bloke with a beard, guitar and mouth organ- Katie Tunstall performed in one of the barns last year and the year before that Seth Lakeman headlined.

It's also within walking distance to the Square and Compass pub in Worth Matravers- don't die without going there- the Landlords home made cider is particularly good.

Cheers

RD

More details will be released at the end of May, tickets hopefully will go on sale from 1st June.

It's 9-12th October so put it in your diary, it's definitely worth it!

Was joking mate, on account that Ponds Forge is primarily a swimming centre ;)
