I havnet actually done a beer brew yet (trying to decide which kit to go for) but have read a few posts about clearing and sediment in bottles etc.

Is it possible to treat beer as we do when brewing wine in terms of leaving it for a longer period to settle, using finings, or maybe even running it through a vinbrite filter to "polish" it?

I havent really seen anything about getting a clear beer?

Is fining / clearing detrimental to beer brewing? Is it the issue of needing to have some yeast in teh bottle for gassing? (may have just answered my own question)

Thanks.

Beer clarity depends on a host of things.....quality of malt, hows it is mashed, water quality, post fermentation handling and fining additives.

The theory is that beers will drop clear of their own accord given long enough.

Like I said above, there are lots of things that will affect beer clarity and I think it is possible to over-analyse things and become too caught up in producing clear beer.

If you are priming in the bottle, then you need to leave some yeast in the beer to work on the priming sugar.
You can bottle beer from a cornelius keg that has been force carbonated that will have no (very little) sediment.

If you have not even produced beer yet; concentrate first on your set up and getting your forst few batches under your belt :thumb:

Done a dozen kits this year and not used any finings, not had a problem with any of them clearing.
As most people on here will tell you, with time and patience it will clear on it's own

Gravity is the best way to clear a beer. I add Irish Moss to my boils and they usually start clearing before it's finished fermenting - my last brew was 2 weeks from wort to keg. There isn't really a need to over compensate...
