Hi all,

What are the merits of batch and fly sparging?
Which is easiest?

Thanks guys.

Andy

the easiest method is neither a re mash is the easy option.

If your doing a 90 min mash do the first 60 mins as normal and drain the wort off into bucket then add further water at 80 degrees stir and leave 15 mins, drain off add last water at 80 degrees and drain to your final volume.
I split my amounts of water into 14 litres, 6 litres and probably last one will be around 6 litres. It all depends on your brew length

Piddle, isnt that batch sparging? Any reason why you'd do 3 batches rather then 2?

My final volume would be 25lt so would need the pre boil to be around 31lt to 32lt to allow for boil off.
I have a 33lt HLT/boiler and a 28lt cool box mash tun.

cos thats what it says on the tin.....

a its a grain kit from The Homebrew Company ( as above ) and in their detailed instructions of 5 lines of text that's what they say to do..... Who am I to argue on my first go...
