After much reading of sound sages advice here I did my first beer brew today, went for the standard Wilko Wherry.
Cleaned everything in the kitchen that didn't move...dog legged it!. And didn't leave a mess (higher authority is very pleased)
Followed the advice about the 1/2 campden tablet in the water (we have a distinct Chlorine smell in the tap water) in one FV while I mixed the cans and boiling water into the other. Moved the FV to the bat cave ( lord 23lts of waters heavy!) and connected the inkbird temp probe...19.4c
SG was 1042 so put in both packets of yeast and gave it a small stir. Now sat in the brew fridge at 20c

Have to plan the next one while I wait the 2 weeks

Fermentation has started and is extremely lively! a very small amount of beer has blown through the air lock and was on the lid. Cleaned it all up and pulled the airlock out of the bung a bit as had it pushed in as far as I could and topped it up. Might need to look at the blow off setup
Temp is a steady between 19.5c - 20c and the airlock is bubbling in very big bursts
 
purely for research purposes I had a try.....tasting pretty good, no twang or funny tastes. So sanitizing, temp (glad i built the beer fridge) all good and with the two packets of yeast it did get stuck.
Might not last too long after bottling!:smallcheers:
 
Day 15. FG 1.008 so have batch primed the Wherry and bottled up. Got 44 bottles now in the beer fridge @ 20c. Had a cheeky test and it tastes nice but is quite sweet. Hopefully time will make it a good one. Will update in a month or so.
On to the next one
 
The Wilko Mezican Ceveza seems to be clearing nicely in the bottles.
Just started the Range's MYO Irish Stout. I followed the instructions, but will leave in the brew fridge for 14 days before bottling. Instructions says to add heaped 1tsp of sugar for each 500ml bottle which may make it very fizzy. Think i'll check the priming calculator out and see what it says. Anyone else done this and what did you prime with??
 
Just having a few Wherrys while watching the football. Next time I do this I think I'll brew short to 20lts. It tastes good and good carbonation but 20ltrs may have more body...I'll drink it anyway
 
Have just moved the Wilko's Mexican Ceveza out of the brew fridge, put on some labels and put them on the garage shelves. Couldn't resist so put one in the fridge. WOW!!! I know its only been in the bottle 2 weeks but its great, nice taste, good carbonation and very clear. This one may not last too long
Wow. Wish I could get my bottles to carb up and condition in two weeks. acheers.
 
opened a second one.....i think i'll leave them to condition in the garage for a few weeks. I think I was just lucky with the 1st one.

On a positive note, carbonation wasn't bad, it was clear and would be good to clear drains or use in cooking
 
The Range's MYO Stout is done and nice and clear (as well as you can see through very dark brew). Managed 41 which are now in the brew fridge @ 20c for 2 weeks. Had a cheeky taste and it's not a bad taste. Lets hope the next 4 weeks go quick for me to check the output
 
Next kit is on the go, again its a Wilko kit.. The Thirsty Devil Red Ale.
Used 500g Med spray, 1kg brewing sugar, ditched the kit yeast & used a Wilko Gervin pack and used the 17p spring water from Asda but only to 20ltrs. SG 1.050

After reading a lot and with the sages advice here, i'm finding the process getting quicker & hopefully the end product will improve

Off to plan the next brew .....or brews
 
Quick update on my first AG brew on Sunday.

2kg Maris Otter
45g EKG flowers alphas 5.61%,
6g Yeast Muntons Gold

6 ltrs of water of Mash water
8 ltrs of Sparge water
Both treated with additions & 1/4 campden tablet
  • At 60 mins add 15g EKG
  • At 30 mins add 15g EKG
  • At 55 mins add 15g EKG
Finished with just under 10ltrs in the FV (but toped up to to 10ltrs) @ 1.044

Its still bubbling away and I'm getting impatient wanting to test the fruits of my labour

Have to say a bit thankyou to @The-Engineer-That-Brews for all the help
