Evening all,

As you may have seen from my recent brewday thread, I'm already getting the itch to have a go at AG brewing!

As it's a new venture for me, I'm keen to keep the initial investment under control whilst hoping to end up with a decent enough setup that it doesn't put me off using it in the future.

Browsing eBay, I came across the following "ready made" setup, and would appreciate some advice from all of you experts as to whether it looks to be good value and useable?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/25L-Brewery-All-G ... _752wt_930

Also, what else would I need equipment wise? (so that I can calculate how much money I'll need to lay out in the first instance)

Finally, can anybody point me in the direction of a decent step-by-step guide to AG using this type of setup? So that I can run through what I believe the process to be and make sure that it ties in with what the actual process is...

Cheers.

Marc

Graham Wheelers Brew your own British Real Ale is a good book. Lots of tuition and recipes.BOOK

In my opinion you could build your own for half the cost of that. It's easy enough if you know how to work a drill and a hacksaw :D and a lot more fun. There are some real good guides on how to build a basic brewery right up to a full on herms-rims stainless steel shiny shiny brewery within the pages of this forum. I built my own from items found on E bay, builders mearchants and supermarkets.MY BUILD Its working fine and producing beer :thumb:

Micks right, you can build your own for 1/2 the cost of that. Also its only a 5ltr boiler so taking into account the volume you will lose during the boil you will be limited to 20ish ltr brew lengths.

I took the plunge and started to get my stuff together a few weeks ago. I'm stuck at 19l brews though, I don't mind atm but I can see me wanting to get back to being able to do the full 40 pints. Anyhow, I sourced an Electrim boiler from eBay for £35 delivered, I was going to make my own but saw this and thought it cheap enough. I made the mash tun myself using a £7 Asda cooling box plus a King Keg style tap and fashioned together the grain filter myself from 22mm copper pipe. The holes are easy enought to make, just use a 32mm hole saw for the outer skin and a 25mm hole saw for the inner skin if you intend to use a KK style tap. The grain filter took a few hours as I cut the piping up using a hack saw instead of a proper pipe cutter. I got my IC from eBay to for £30 delivered which worked out pretty much the same as buying the copper pipe and making my own. For my HLT/fermenter I just used the fermenting bins I currently have. Did my first brew yesterday, the TTL clone, and all worked a treat.
