I have a barrel problems all the time too, they empty too fast
Seriously though if it's sealed and primed correctly it shouldn't glug air back in via the tap, this will cause the beer to oxidise and go stale alot quicker. When you open the tap the beer should be coming out under pressure, if i open mine more than halfway i end up with a glass of froth
If i have session the pressure might drop a bit and i might need to gas it up but if it's trickling out from the begining then you've definitely got issues with the seal on your lid.
When i'm kegging a brew i make sure the white o-ring is seated properly, then put some vaseline round the thread of the lid, tighten up with 2 fingers only so as not to overtighten it
