Hi Boyz and Girlz,

Please help.

Just started my 1st bitter from Youngs Brew, it's due to go into the barrel around Monday (fingers crossed).

Can you please advise if i need i need to put gas into the barrel?

hi you need to boil around a pint of water with 85g of sugar for around 10 mins then let it cool to room temp (place pan in sink of cold water , may take around 10 to 20 mins ish) then add to keg then transfer brew avoid splashing + bubbles etc then leave at room temp for 10 to 14 days then somewhere cooler to condition , when drinking from keg and the pouring slows down or starts to glug (air going in ) then you need to use a c02 bulb

Thanks for your quick reply.

Have i got this right, i only add CO2 when it's ready to drink?

Ta

You probaby won't need to add CO2 until you're half-way through the barrel. The 85g of sugar Pittsy mentions will corbonate the beer in the keg giving it both fizz and pressure. Add CO2 when the flow of beer from the tap reduces.

BEFORE you put any beer into that barrel take the tap out and the lid off & smear a bit of vaseline on the seals. This can prevent a leak once it starts to pressure up. Very easy to prevent now....very difficult to fix once it's full of beer :thumb:

Fully agree with Dave, it also has the advantage of enabling easier unscrewing after being sat there for a few weeks!
