Just brewed this kit before after racking my coopers canadian blonde to secondary. As far as i can tell these are quite new kits, the kit consists of a 7.5l bag of "concentrated brewers wort" a packet of ale yeast and bentonite for clearing. Some of the ales also include hop pellets. The kit was fairly simple to brew you just mix the bentonite first then add the bag of wort and top up to 23l. The bag is a little harder to handle than a can of malt but it did smell great going into the bucket. I have brewed the coopers cervesa before so i will do a direct comparison when it is finished.
 
I am very interested in the outcome as I too have brewed the coopers Mexican Cervesa on a couple of occasions.

May I ask how much you paid for the kit and where from?

I saw it around £28 which i thought was fairly pricey

It was £28 from my local homebrew shop Brew2bottle. It is a little pricey but it doesnt need any extra sugar so its only about 6 quid more than id spend brewing the coppers kit with spraymalt. Ive just had a look at it and theres no krausen yet at all which is a little concerning
 
Says you only started it on Sunday so i wouldnt be too concerned about no Krausen ring.

Is your airlock going?

give it a couple days before panicking.

i dont have an airlock, i have a coopers fermenter with a loose lid setup. This is longest ive gone without krausen, all my other kits have started quite quickly, could it be because its a different type of yeast?
 
I'm doing a Coopers Mexican Cerveza and its the slowest most gentlest ferment I've had. Took 24 hours to get going at 20 degrees and then came up into a lovely cone shape of thick creamy foan 24 hours later settled back into a flat gentle ferment with about half inch of foam.
 
Im still yet to see any foam, ive had a peek under the lid and there are a few bubbles here and there but nothing much to speak of. Maybe i pitched the yeast at to high temp? If it doesnt start up any ideas on what yeast to add to get it going? :hmm:
 
unless you have killed the yeast completely with your cleaning regime and failing to rinse well, it Will start again. perhaps give it a gentle swirl, but give it a few days. The temp in my garage at this time of the year especially this summer seems to stay constant at 20 degrees, so I pitch at that and ferment at that temp.
 
I dont have a garage, i brew in my spare room so its a little warmer which is why i picked a kit with an ale yeast. I stirred it this morning and there is a faint fizzing sound like putting your ear to a glass of coke. Is it possible for it to ferment fully without getting krausen?
 
I've never had a successful brew that didn't have some type of head on it in the fermenting vessel some big some little some vigorous some not so.
If you can hear something in your brew it suggests fermentation is taking place. Is any sediment building up on the bottom of your vessel you can usually see a bit through the plastic. If so again that suggests the yeast is multiplying and working.
Have patience there's no need to panic until your into the 7-10 day period and the brew is looking lifeless.
 
my fermenter is clear so i can see in, yes there is sediment at the bottom the hydrometer reading i took is 5 points lower than it was at the start so i guess something must be happening however slowly
 
i gave the fermenter a good stir and have take a couple of hydrometer readings, it has dropped to 1.012 as of today but still no krausen, very strange but never mind. Im planning on leaving it in primary for a full 3 weeks then racking to secondary for another 3 so i dont mind if its a little slow
 
Yeh is a great shop, glad to have it so close! problem is i spend far too much in there now
 
How did your Mexican cervessa work out was it good. Please let me know. :hat:

It was really nice, im told the bentonite calms down fermentation so it can look very calm but everything is happening fine. Not sure it was worth the extra money and my local has stopped stocking these now so i wont be doing it again, it was a very good kit though and the bentonite made the beer crystal clear. It wasnt lacking in body either like some cervesa kits
 
Just ordered one of these from Brewstore.co.uk because it was only £15.99. Thought it was a wee bargain. :cheers:
