Hi guys

Not sure of the credibility of the source, but my son has just mentioned that some all-inclusive holidays in the Balearics now are getting alcohol restrictions on them.

Apparently a person is only allowed 6 alcoholic drinks a day - 3 at lunch time and 3 at dinner.

I wondered if anyone has heard of this and if it is indeed correct? What are the reasons for it?

Personally I think there’s no point paying extra money for all-inclusive if youre not getting all the traditional benefits?

Any input?

Not sure I agree

it is still all inclusive in that you get everything included food and drink etc

What it isn’t is unlimited.

Don’t understand the attraction of all inclusive anyway. Get out there and see the islands and find some nice bars and restaurants along the way. It’s cheep as chips anyway in the local villages

I could be wrong but I dont think it's any sort of law or rule change specific to the Balearics, more that some hotels are looking to chisel more cash off you by putting small print restrictions in like the ones you mention, or having time constraints etc.... You just need to look out when you are searching and try not to get caught out.

Just another example of effectively, shrinkflation. Vote with your feet. It's never been more important for consumers to punish those not willing to meet us in the middle.

I think you are reading to much into it. Maybe you should meet them halfway.

It’s been a bad few years for hotels on the islands so they have had to look at their models again.

Besides at a planning level the islands are looking to faze out all inclusive hotels all together and get people out and about and experiencing and contributing to the local economy. That can’t be a bad thing can it?

Then don't call it all inclusive. Sorry but its dishonest

You are wrong - the authorities introduced a package of laws in 2020 to reduce alcohol abuse in Ibiza and in parts of Mallorca, which included this 6-drinks-per-day rule but because of the pandemic nobody really noticed until now, and one guy in particular seems to have made a fuss to the newspapers (but didn't complain to the holiday company) :
