I'm no expert but I would have thought the hop aroma/flavour would be reduced quite a bit by Xmas.

Once you have one or 2, I doubt you'll be able to keep them that long anyway.

made a schoolboy error of making it up to 23l rather than 20l
The instruction actually say 11.5 litres. If you multiply 568ml by 20 you almost get 11.5 litres, so maybe they mean 20 pint bottles. That would make the alcohol level tie more into 5.6% as me and everyone else are getting 6% plus.

My OG was only 1046 so id need a FG of 1002 to get 5.6% which id be very surprised to get!

That said i bottled a wilko mexican cerveza last tuesday with a OG 1046 and FG of 1006 which ill be happy with if the IPA is the same!

Why'd you say that mate? I've done a few IPA kits and after 5-6 months they've been fantastic.

Possibly lol, but should be ok, the cellar is stocked chockablock with ale as it is.

I brewed a single kit to 11.5l as per instructions and got an sg of 1056. Went down to 1010 making it just above 6%.
Even starting at 1046, if you get down to 1010 it would be just under the 5% after taking the priming sugar into account.
 
Any updates on the extra week in the bottle?
I've put one in the fridge ready for tomorrow
It will have been over three weeks

Got another on the go since last Saturday but decided on a partial mash using up some Maris and some crystal throwing in some Ella and citra on a 30 minute boil (2hour mash)

Any updates from anyone else?
 
Just bottled the real ale as per instructions. tasting good and quite hoppy. i guess that'll fade over next couple of weeks. I've got a second kit to try mashing a kilo of pale malt instead of the dextrose. ..

Sounds like youl get a couple of litres extra there too without it tasting on the thin side

Trying one of myn tonight along with an all grain I think I can guess now which one will taste better

Just had a little taste of the real ale out of my barrel and it tastes a bit clinical. Maybe a bit longer and that will fade....hopefully.
 
Nearly forgot to add feed back on my brew
I think next time'I'll use bottled water
I decided to use treated tap water but as I still don't have a proper test kit I'm going on rough guide lines

But what I will say is there is no twang
And I'm hoping this was due to following earlier mentioned methods to avoid this
But it's come out a perfectly decent pint and an extra week or two should really confirm it as a very decent affordable kits
 
Interesting, saw these a few weeks back and laughed them off as a gimmick. £8 for half a one can kit is about right as they still only give you random yeast and some cheap brewing sugar. The hops is a nice touch though. Be interesting how good they really are, as I want to make a turbo cider, so the 10 litre FV would be good.
 
As I mentioned earlier, they're made by the same company as the mangrove jack kits. Doesn't guarantee they'll be as good as them but it's certainly a good sign

Are they really that good value considering you can get the youngs American ipa etc for 19.99 and 40 pints of it 100 grams of dry hop too?

B&M US IPA
So i transferred to a PB with tap ready to bottle in next day or so after 2 weeks in FV. The smell is instantly better than any extract kit ive done before. Its the first time ive used a dry hop so i can only atribute it to that. Intial taste is better than usual too, itd say its not far away from marstons version of shipyard ipa.

Anyway FG came out at 1016 which is just shy of 4.2% abv at my reckoning. Less than i was wanting or expecting but shouldve kept at 20l as per instructions.

Ive a few points if anyone can help me:

Whenever i use spraymalt instead of brewing sugar FG is always 1014-1020.
Is this normal?
Is it a symptom of kit yeast?
Is it a sympton of tap water?
I keep the FV under the stairs at a consistent temp of 20-22c but up to 24c with the current weather.
Ive tried adding yeast nutrient and ive started leaving FV for 2 weeks.
Which is how ive been getting nearer 1014 but it still seems too high. Ive got basic wilkos equipment and arent confident enough to be opening it up everyday to check gravity without risk of infection! Ive never had an infection but dont think i could handly discarding 40 pints of beer without calling it a day!

So am i looking about 10 points difference per 500g between dextrose sugar and dried malt in 22l? Is u know the ppg of spraymalt that would be great?

Near that. My one with dry malt finished 1.016, the dextrose one loads lower. You could taste the alcohol difference hugely on the dextrose one.
