Good morning and thanks for letting me in :hat:

I'm a 40 something brewer from Yorkshire and live on the outskirts of Leeds.
I have an infusion mash system that can comfortably brew 40 litres of most styles of beer and I've been brewing on and off for the past 5 years or so.
In my student days and early 20's I dabbled with beer and wine kits.
My dad was an irregular homebrewer when I was a kid and was a big fan of the old Ironmaster kits that you could get at the time; he never got as far as mashing, but did graduate to landlord by buying a pub. My parents still own a freehouse, but have retired and now lease it out. I've often thought the place was ripe for a micro in the out building next door......maybe one day :hmm:

My brewing activities have been somewhat curtailed over the past two years with the arrival of my son; but now he is a little older I'm hoping that brewdays can become a bit more regular again.

My big love is pale ale and it is these that I brew in the main along with the occasional standard bitter. Porters and darker beers are not really my thing if I'm totally honest as I often find them too sweet for my palette, though I do enjoy the odd Guinness (am I allowed to say that here? )

I intend to make my first foray in to perry making this autumn as one of my relatives kindly gave me an old fruit press that must be put to use and I have located a source of pears that are wasted on making the wasps drunk every year.

I would like at some point to bring more automation to my brewing process, but to do this I need to develop my technical skills and my understanding of things like pumps, pids, electrics and other such stuff that at the moment quite literally blows my mind.

I would also like to go through the Beer Judge Certification Program.....or its UK equivalent. If anyone can point me in the right direction for this I would be grateful as the only info I can find is US based and much as I'd like to go over there to be examined; I don't think I could get away with that at home.
The BrewLab courses offered at Sunderland Uni have also perked my interest and it's my intention at some point to sign up for something.

Well; I suppose that is enough of my waffle for now.....all this typing has made me quite thirsty, has anyone got a beer on the go??

Welcome Mark.
The How to guides have quite a bit on the subjects you are looking at, Pid's and pumps and all things electric.
If you have a question, just post it, some clever bugger on here will help you out... :D
