Well my old focus needs more done to it than what it's worth...I've spent all day visiting car dealers. The astra estate I had my eye on had been sold although it was still on the dealer website for the past 3 days...a standard astra 1.6 Sri 15 plate with 14k ticked the boxes at 7,7 but the sales man started being an arse when I didn't agree there and then to a sale so I just got up and walked...more of the same tomorrow. ...bottling and brew day out the window...again!

Another old focus bites the dust then Clint I got fed up with spending on my 52plate focus st170 and after 13 years of ownership I thought I'd have a change. So went for a ST225 (asbo) still an old car but absolutely awsome. Had the thing 6 days then a clown in a van backed into me and did this.

Ouch, that hurts! Nice car though, we owned an ST170 for the best part of 10 years, awesome car!

I've reserved a 15 plate astra Sri with 14k one owner fsh. It's got a small ding in the chrome strip on the rear bumper and a bit of a scratch both of which will be fixed....

Well done Clint. Last time I changed cars, it took me months to find the right one.

Took me half an hour and a thousand notes 13 months ago. Still working as it should and won't be replaced until it dies, whereupon I'll do the same again. Cars... meh.

I hope I won't miss an estate...but I got sick of looking plus the estates in a petrol engine aren't that common for a low mileage etc without paying too much. ..I missed one I really liked the sound of but that's how it goes..

Raises a, possibly, interesting slant on the original query. Why pay £7.5k?

Over the past 3-4 years I've spent £1800 on two cars - Honda CR-V's. Boring and reliable. The first was a proper old dog for £500 off the bay. Lasted 3 years and did everything I needed from it, before rot set in. The latest is a £1200 130k 2004 model - much tidier.

I have loads of mates who have gone for the PCP type deals on new cars.

It's all good*....I just wondered what guides people in their purchases.

* no it isn't - all cars are massive money pits one way or another.

I buy new we have a 2005 sirion 1.3se and a 2013 mazda cx-5 - depreciation not an issue for us when keeping a car for 10 years and you know the history and make sure it's well looked after.

Will be getting either a suzuki swift sport or honda jazz sport b4 summertime and our daughter will get the sirion.

How fast was he going
Wasn't going very fast I made it worse by bracing for impact and keeping my foot on the brakes.
Just found out valuation today, I got £750 more than I paid for it bought it back for $698 should cost 700/800 to fix up. With compo claim I'll have a free car and a couple of K in mi pocket. I can feel a grainfather coming in the not so distant future

Oh I love a fast Ford. I bet that was great fun to drive until that idiot mashed in the front end. Hope you get it fixed up and back on the road where it belongs quickly.

I hope so @foxbat was awesome while it lasted. my dream fast ford would be an escort cosworth blue. I've already started on mine once I got the bonnet off doesn't look as bad as I thought. Just sourcing all the parts I need now.

I used to like cars that went from 0 - 60 in a few seconds I now prefer ones that are not as fast but do a lot more to the gallon .

Chap I know does plumbing goes to one of his regulars ...an old couple living in a big house. The old boy had passed away. ..the old girl asks him to look in the shed coz she wanted some stuff shifting...there was cars and old motor bikes all restored..amongst them and original cosworth with 4k miles ....
