I'm proud to be English,

I was born in Germany whilst my dad was serving,
I lived in Malaya for several years
I'm from good Irish stock ony father's side
My mother has Greek in her family history
I served in the Yorkshire regiment
I married a half German girl.

I'm about as English as you can get, a true ******* from a ******* nation!!!!!

Oh and I count myself as a Yorkshire man first, English second and then European

There are things to be enormously proud of and things to be deeply ashamed of in our English heritage. But I guess the same is true of most nations.

I aspire to be patriotic but not nationalist. A patriot wants his nation to be the best it can and works to reform things that are wrong with it. The sort of sentiment in Blakes Jerusalem. A patriot can rejoice to see their nation as one that contributes to the well being of other nations and when it is is a welcoming and hospitable place.

Nationalist however usually want the success of their own nation at the expense of others. Probably the Nazis espoused the worst form of Nationalism

But I do think we should be proud of our English Ales and ciders ! Especially in the face of the tide of US craft beers invading our bars which often don't involve as much craft as they pretend too!

I'm Yorkshire first then English especially if people ask me where I am from I say Yorkshire. As Fred Trueman said when he was asked who was the best Yorkshireman he knew ? He said " there's 6 million of us and where all the best"

Was he illiterate?

Scottish Clyde side / Irish grandparents, all Riveters, but with a closet Jewish grandfather. That must make me English after a fashion. Support Scotland at rugby and used to for soccer, 1978 was the year the "fitba"' team got disbanded, if I recall correctly. Ally MacCleod or some clown?
