Ok so I'm on day 8 of my first brew. Most of the bubbles have gone from the top but there is some left. Also there are little brown snotty looking things on top. And there is a strong sweet apple smell coming from it. It's a bitter btw. Anything wrong or shall I just leave it alone?

It's usually due to cheap yeast, or incomplete fermentation, it needs a few days to clean up after fermentation.
The good news is, it should wear off almost entirely with a month or two ageing.

Acetaldehyde is produced during fermentation and is most often described as a green apples flavour and aroma. The good news is it normally goes away and is mostly associated with very young beers that haven't completed fermentation properly...

Thanks for the help. I'm not planning on even testing with a hydro til 2 and a half weeks so ill see what happens

made me question my first brew, disappears without issue!

If its the coopers lager then the yeast gives a very strong 'green apple' smell. It does clear with time but the beer isnt really drinkable for about 4 weeks.
