Hey guys, I'm new to this brewing malarkey and wondered if you could let me know what you think of my 'Apple Death Brew'.

No idea how this is going to turn out so bear with me.

I bought about 5 bags containing 6 apples this morning, 1 of each variety - Pink Lady, Golden Delicious etc..

I peeled and cored them all and boiled them to mush in a big pan. (it took me ages so thankfully the cricket was on)

Added 1kg maybe a little more of sugar, added 2 liters of copella english apple juice and blended it all together.

Then I added water until I had 5gallons.

5 Heaped teaspoons of young's super wine yeast compound, 1 tablespoon of tomato puree as a yeast nutrient.

Just added some cider yeast and bunged it into the airing cupboard, gonna check on it in a week or so.

How do you guys think it'll turn out? Shall I add anything now while I still have the chance? more sugar etc...?

Do you think it'll turn out more like wine or cider? and most importantly do you think it'll work or have I just made an extravagant mess for no reason lol.

I look forward to your responses,
Chris.

Hydrometer says it'll prob come out about 5%, fingers crossed for a light summer cider.

Well I think you may have made a lot of work for yourself I think you would ahve got a very similar result from cartons of apple juice.

True, but I quite like the idea of the cider being cloudy from the apples. Hopefully the extra effort will make it taste better too :P

If you've added super yeast compound and cider yeast, I should think you-ll have a volcano!

how much in total liquid did you get from it all?

5 Gallons once I topped it up. probably about 5 liters of gunge beforehand.

Woah as in blow up?

I really don't want that to happen lol. I've just checked on it now (midnight) and it's going nuts, very audible and reactive. Has been on for Approx 6hours lol.

That you will get as you have not added any anti pectin enzyme!

That was intentional, my brother told me about that.

While both very new to this he prefers the intricate science of brewing, following recipes etc..

I love experimenting, like a Dr Frankenstein.

Just checked on the brew, IT'S ALIVE!!!!
