I think they are backer elements

2 in a 50L stock pot seems as though it should get up to temp quite quickly :) then 1 to run on a rolling boil, obviously each on a separate ring main.

Anyone using these, if so any down sides or problems with cutting out?

I dropped into Backer electrics firm several months ago for a new element as a spare .
I went into for a 2.5W one and while there they showed me a 3KW one, as far as I can recall it was the same as that above.
Due to the round pins it wouldn't fit my " kettle tyle " leads so I came away with the 2.5 which had square kettle style pins. Am sure this is the 3KW one.

2750w to be precise :thumb:

just read an old post about the shrouds popping off  think I may well plump for 2.4kw ones from Peco which come with a steel nut

or from homebrewcompany. I would always replace the lock nut with a metal one if nothing else

are they the 40mm hole size of 38mm ?

I remember cutting a 40mm hole for my tesco kettle element which should have been 38mm...was a nightmare to seal it !!

I have one of these in my cheap cheap boiler, bought direct from Backer for £22. Yes the supplied plastic/bakelite nuts are worse than useless, but alternative 40mm bearing nuts are easy to source for about £3. Only have one installed in a 33 litre brew bucket, takes a little while to get up to the boil, but is quite efficient on a rolling boil controlled by a PID. At £18 on ebay I'm tempted to pick up another one to make a second brew bucket.
