Were moving house in January and speaking to BT today it became clear that they'll want £130 to connect the line in the new house plus our current £28 per month for line rental and call package & then there's the £14 for our O2 broadband.

I phoned Sky and they can connect the line for £10 if I take their call package, line rental, broadband and sky+ with the entertainment bundle. All in all it sounds like a good deal and will only cost 50 pence a month more than were currently paying. My question is, does anyone use sky broadband and is it any good? Any regular problems? What about customer service etc...

Cheers

Dave

I use SKY BB. never had any problems with the actual line TBH. I'm paying for the "up to 20meg" service and my d/l speed is about 14Mb and doesnt really waiver from that, so I'm quite pleased with it. All depends how far you are away from the exchange, mind!

The stock router is a pile-o-***** though! Customer service - as big companies go they're not too bad in my experience. Then I've never really had a problem, so that's all I can say really.

I had o2, great customer service. Orange said they could save me money and I've had nothing but problems since :(

I have the sky package, I work from home quite often and am I a heavy user of both phone and broadband and have never had a problem with either.

We looked into all the deal available when we moved and sky was the best. Never had a problem changing package or anything else.

Same said above Customer service is quite good all calls answered in Scotland and done quite quickly. Can’t complain about it, much better than others I have tried.

I have the full package from Sky....I must admit my d/I speed is low because I live a way off the exchange. I have been pleased with the service ..been with them for 10 years now :thumb:

Thats good to know.

Which router is it that Sky are currently supplying?

Sky are really, good far better than the jokers at BT.

I went from sky back to BT a couple of years ago when I decided I would try BT vision as on the surface it looked cheaper than Sky, biggest mistake i ever made, I went back to sky with my tail between my legs and would not recommend BT to my worst enemy, they were utter Two hats, they screwed up my direct debit mandate and wanted to charge me £4.50 to pay them my 3 months in advance line rental even though it was their admin mistake etc etc etc.

Sky are much better, but their wireless router is sh*te I logged into mine and turned the wireless off, I then plugged a belkin wireless router i had into that and use that for wireless, and get great coverage around the house.

Ditch BT you wont be disappointed

Thats good enough for me then!

So... do I try and push SWMBO for HD or do I just bide my time??!? ;)

Im using sky broadband its good but not as quick as virgin broadband not tried any others to compare them too though go for the HD you'll only regret in the future

I believe it's a Sagem one at the moment, IIRC. My one is a couple of years old and is made by NetGear. The only problem I have with the new ones is that I work from home and connect to work via VPN, which for some reason the new ones don't allow (I know becasue we lived with my girlfriend's parents for a month when we moved down to Devon and theirs was brand new. I had to swap it for my older one for the time we were there). I'm sure the network savvy among you could probably fix that though - I'm no computer whizz though :wha:

Also, look into "SKY Anytime Plus" - it uses the internet connection to download movies and stuff to your SKY+ box so you can play them any time :thumb:

If you get an existing sky customer to recommend you theres a £50 M & S for you both. ;)
HD is ok, Mrs S. loves it, extra sound quality is the best bit.
Might have to have a look at a bundle myself if the BB is ok, never had a problem with virgin, but theres a recession on ;)
Even the dogs are on a more economical food, down from £42 to £21 a bag and still good stuff. They haven't told me they don't like it, don't think they even noticed.

Watch the maximum usage though, there's a very low limit - so if you're planning on downloading films and things it could be a problem. I have virgin and with fiber optic connections i usually get up to 19+ M downloads

Theyve offered us unlimited download (fair usage) but I had noticed their limited package is very poor especially when I spend a lot of time downloading HD movies at 12Gb a pop!!

I never has them throttle my bandwidth yet so I wouldn't worry too much, If the connection gets slow reset router and new ip appears and speed is good again :thumb:

I have been with BT they are sheeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiittttttttttttttttttteeeeeeeeeeeeeeee compared with sky, and there's no chance of a virgin round these parts so sky it is.

I did do several years with eclipse and they were superb but I had to pay BT line rental on top so they had to go.

My missus works for BT and we get free broadband (top package) and bt vision (TV) the broadband is good but the TV is ***** - we get it free but are thinking of going back to SKY..............that says a lot..............BT customer service is the worst I have experienced, lies and ********...........don`t get me started :nono:

Interesting thread this. I get my broadband free with my mobile package with Orange. Phone is with Southern Electric along with the Gas and Electric (getting a bit expensive). So was thinking of going back to BT when I move. Think I'm going to have to have the line reactivated at the new house. I don't have SKY as don't use satellite TV but there will be a dish left at the new house so was going to get FREESAT. Now I'm not sure whether to go with SKY for Broadband and Phone and basic telly as a package.

Sky now just do the broadband phone package without the tv package, you don't have to take the TV part, have a look see on their website.

Thanks UP. Had a look and they dont have an exchange in that area yet they say.

"Currently we estimate that the maximum download speed your line could support is 2Mb.
At present we are unable to provide our Sky Broadband Everyday Lite or Unlimited products on your number; we can, however, offer you Sky Broadband Connect, which is available in your area right now, with up to 8Mb* download speeds and a monthly usage allowance of 40GB, perfect for everyday browsing and email."

But that will cost £17 a month

Have you tried the same search "with the TV Package" to see what answer that gives you?

It may be available then :wha:
