Since retiring 3 years ago I decided to take it up again after not playing for nearly 40 years , I learned to play at school and college but never properly.
I've had lessons and now play about twice a week , I've become fairly average which is very good from when I began lessons.
and hopefully soon I'll become a County Master.

Never played Bridge - never really appealed - prefer the odd game of cards that also allows me to drink plenty while playing

That's were I did most of my card playing , cribbage, nap, solo, brag, poker etc. ,but alcohol and gambling don't really mix.

Can't remember the last time I played cards in a pub.

We play nomination whist with my family, and hearts with my in laws.

Whatever we play, it's always accompanied by plenty of beer / wine / single malt :drink:

since meeting my wife I learnt to play Canasta. it's a great game.
I too learnt bridge at school, but haven't played since. The in-laws are very high standard (and they live in Collwall) - and teach bridge, and normally do very well in tournaments they enter - I know my wife will never play with them, so I always say I will, knowing we won't ever get a four.

Is that Colwall near Malvern? If it is I probably know them.

yes, it is, which is why I mentioned it, and yes you probably do know them (not sure I should mention them, considering the sum total of all my other posts on here, might be detrimental to my health... )

Also a guy who plays in Worcester leagues, used to be careers master at RGSW, he taught me bridge, along with the Chaplain at the same school.

We played a team match in the Worcester "no fears" league last Monday evening against a team from Stourbridge at our Captain's house in Worcester.

At half time (supper break ) we were 42 -21 down . I'd taken a bottle of my homemade World Reserve Vintners Shiraz and a bottle of Chateau du Reserve Pinot Grigio with me , only our team wanted any , we went on to win 65 - 57!
